Taking photos is, for most people, a way to record memories and to share experiences with friends and family. With modern photography equipment, travellers can take high quality photos without spending a fortune or needing to carry an extra suitcase.

Point-and-shoot compact digital cameras can take great photos, but a Digital SLR gives an extra edge. The photographic experience you are going to have is entirely different with a digital SLR because it have better quality and resolution the photographs will be of more quality so that you can use it many more coming days. One of the greatest disadvantage of Digital SLR camera is that it is heavy so you will find it a bit difficult to carry. There is hope for light packers who want the full lens range. There are different types of lenses that can serve most of your photographic needs, lenses are available for 18 to 200mm. How To Capture Your Cat’s Personality In A Digital Photo!

Over the past few years, I have taken hundreds of photos of my cats. You can also share the knowledge and tips about this type of photography to others. Capture your cat’s Personality when you take a great photo!

I want to clarify that I am not a professional photographer. I have taken digital photos of my cats and dog since it was possible to own a digital camera. You will be able to present your pet photos in a gallery so that the can be used for some kind of competitions, the way the cats and dogs behaves or poses will be the central concept of the competition.

The back ground you are choosing will be important in these type of photography. The type of back grounds for pet photography should be chosen carefully and should not be cluttered. A backdrop can be ideal for the situation. Try to create one so that you can use it for other types of photography also. Use a dark blue or black sheet or a piece of dark material. The back drop should be in the form of a board with more than 3 feet wide on the sides and 2 feet over  the top of the pet. some photographers have the habit of green screens and this will work in most situations.

Normally most of the people uses some kind of boards as a back drop in such a situation you should ensure than the back drop is more than 3 feet by the sides and more than 2 feet over the head of the subject. Or you might be able to drape it over the back of your sofa. The trick is to keep your subject in the center, while the surrounding areas in your photo are all covered by your back drop. There should not be any wrinkles in the back drop you can remove it using some kind of tapes or adhesives. Use matching material for your pet to sit or stand on if necessary in front of the back drop. In other words, if you want the full body, make sure the other areas on the photo are covered with the backdrop.

Next, find the right lighting. If you have a couple of lamps to light up the background, that will help. Make sure there are no shadows, move the back lights around until there aren’t any shadows on your subject. Use natural lighting when possible, and try to take your photos during the daytime. Add lighting as needed. Most of the photographers relay on the day light for taking their best photos. The best place to take a photo is near a large window, with natural light, or if possible outdoors. You can compose your frame such that the pet is in the centre and the remaining part is covered by the dark colored back drop.

Avoiding the use of the flash is advisable in these cases. The flash light will cause the eyes of the pets to glow and this will ruin the overall look of the photos. Plus your pet usually won’t like the flash. The back drop should be maintained clean so that there is spots or hair. Distractions will occur in the photos if there are spots and hairs in the back drop.

The photography is an interesting activity be it animal photography, your pet photography, natural photography or wedding photography courses.

Beginners View On The Effect Of Focal Length In Photographs

In the good old days there wasn’t much to know about lens focal lengths. Lenses were classified into telephoto, normal and wide angle depending on the cameras in which they were used. The usage of a lens was studied from the focal length represented in the camera format. Today the story is different, there are several types of cameras and even a difference in millimeter length itself makes large difference. Many other factors go into determining the effects a particular lens will produce—from magnification factor to zoom range and much more.

The focal length of a lens is the measurement of the distance from the center of a lens to the point at which its image is focused. The longer the distance, the longer the lens. A longer is lens is considered as a telephoto lens. The shorter that distance, the wider the angle of view. The most common measurement of lens focal lengths is in millimeters, although some old-school photographers still refer to large format lenses in inches.

The standard focal length of a full frame digital sensor is 35mm. Smaller formats often have shorter focal lengths (say, a 10mm wide angle that seems unbelievably short) but in “equivalent” terms they’re much more akin to more familiar focal lengths (say, a 17mm lens that is the equivalent to a 28mm lens in 35mm equivalent terms).

Lenses have various classifications based on focal length and the field of view they provide. A wide-angle lens provides a much greater field of view, and is generally considered to be any lens 40mm or shorter (again, in full frame equivalent terms). A normal lens—on a full frame DSLR—is the distinction given to any lens that ranges roughly from 40mm to 65mm or so. These lenses are “normal” because they provide an angle of view that approximates that of the human eye. Lenses with focal length 70mm to 1000mm are considered as telephoto lenses and generally used in full frame cameras.  The longer the telephoto, the narrower the angle of view and the greater the magnifying power it provides. That’s why wildlife and sports photographers so often use 600mm and longer telephotos. Amateur photographers will settle with 300mm lenses.

A smaller sensor will have an effect over a lens of given focal length called the crop factor or magnification factor.  This is because a smaller sensor produces a similar effect to cropping a larger sensor—effectively magnifying the image. Some photographers object to this narrowing of the angle of view because they’re used to a lens of a certain focal length producing a certain corresponding angle of view. The sensor has the ability to increase the focal length of a telephoto lens and hence is preferred by several professional photographers. If you photograph sports or wildlife, a 400mm lens placed on a camera with a 1.5 magnification factor would behave more like a 600mm lens.

Thus, if you want to become a photographer, it is essential for you to learn all these tips and especially the focal length concept to give a sharp edge to your photography business be it wedding photography or a simple amateur photography done for self satisfactions and delitment
